Benjamin Garcia is a photographer, videographer, designer, and curator from New Jersey, currently working on the road. His work circles a single conviction: that an image, a portrait, even a gathering of people can be composed to hold a feeling the way a vessel holds water.

He photographs people, travel, landscape, culture, and events: the ordinary moments most of us pass without turning our heads. But the photograph is only the visible half. Beneath each frame lies an intention — what to show and what to withhold. The feeling arrives first; the design follows. Across photography, film, design, and curation the through-line never breaks: work that feels timeless yet carries a personality, each piece telling its own story.

He arrived at photography sideways. Set on the pre-medical track — psychology and marketing, a psychiatrist in the making — he picked up a camera as a hobby in college, and as he moved deeper into the humanities the two pursuits began to mirror each other: the study of people and the study of the image, each teaching him to read the other. Self-taught, and held by the plainest of impulses — to memorialize a feeling and place it in another's hands, because if a tree falls in an empty forest, who is there to know it fell.

His clients have been largely university and local organizations, with freelance commissions alongside; in the same years he has helped organize exhibitions, direct studio photoshoots, and mount his own projects. Recent projects such as CWRU Graduates 2026, Camp Kesem, and Knicks Parade move across the full span of his interests: from the closeness of portraiture, to the patient record of community, to the unbargained energy of the street.

I believe the eyes are windows to the soul, and so my photographs are, in the end, my perspective on life — offered in the hope of drawing people into togetherness around a single shared moment. The work is a way of remembering what we have seen, and honoring it, instead of letting it slip past unmarked. When I shoot, the camera can stand like a barrier between me and the person before it, and my whole purpose is to dissolve that barrier. I view the camera as an extension of my own eyes, bringing humanity to every frame. Working with me, you get someone clear about the plan and serious about the goal, but who wants a collaborative dynamic too: I like to trade ideas, stay open to the useful mistakes, and produce quality work as we find the meaning together.

Off the clock, he is usually thrifting — hunting for clothing and inspiration, an eye for personality and reinvention that finds its way back into the work.
